Your Reviews

Porth Nanven House is primarily a family home which is only available to rent for a few weeks per year; the house has not been available for a couple of years so the reviews may look out of date, but read on, they say it all!

“The location of the house is sublime, I couldn’t stop staring out of the windows towards the sea! We loved the wild garden which must be beautiful in spring time. The valley and surrounding area is great for bird watching and we spotted dolphins and porpoises almost every day.”

The ground floor is predominantly open plan, with light flooding in from the wall of large glass sliding doors along the back, which lead to your private garden. There is a defined comfortable sitting area with two sofas, armchair and squashy bean bags, with a large wall mounted plasma screen.  A dining area with good sized table and seating for six people. The bed is a beautifully comfortable and  can be split into twins if necessary (must be agreed in advance). There are double glass patio doors leading out to the decked area and garden. A wooden staircase leads from the kitchen area to the first floor:

The Family Suite – an open plan room with a clever layout to create two distinct sleeping areas. To the right of the staircase is an area with two single white wooden beds and a large dressing mirror. To the left of the staircase is the spacious main sleeping area with a large super king wooden sleigh bed with hanging space behind, bedside tables, and a large wall mounted plasma screen. There are patio doors leading out from the room onto the first-floor balcony with views of the private garden, shared family garden and swimming pool. There are sun loungers on the balcony for full relaxation! At the far end of the room is a large, beautifully presented family bathroom with freestanding bath, WC and basin, the perfect place to relax after a busy day exploring!

The private garden is accessible via the glass patio doors in the living area, it is mostly laid to lawn, with flowerbeds and a good-sized decked area immediately outside the doors. The owners are happy to allow guests access to a small sized grass football pitch, which can become a tennis court in the summer, this is accessed via a small gate from the garden.  At the front of the property is the “Drying Room”, a large utility room with washing machine, tumble drier and plenty of space to store bikes, wet suits, surf boards and other beach stuff.  If you have an electric vehicle, you can run a charging cable from the Drying room but this needs to be agreed with Karen and John during your stay.

Karen and John are the incredibly welcoming owners of the Summer House and absolutely encourage the guests to make full use of all the shared facilities.

Your Retreat: Explore, Relax and Unwind

Imagine spending your days exploring the breath-taking beauty of the wild, rugged landscape of West Cornwall, walking to Lands’ End or Zennor.  Balance that with lazy days on nearby sandy beaches, such as Sennen or Porthcurno or find a lesser-known cove, such as Porth Nanven or Nanjizel, sunbathing and riding the waves.  Returning to a clean, comfortable and stylish Cornish cottage where you can kick back and unwind, with a glass of something in the private garden. Then head out to St Just, Mousehole or St Ives for dinner to sample the vibrant Cornish culinary scene. If this is your idea of a perfect Cornish holiday, then Porth Nanven Cottage is your ideal choice.

Accommodation

The cottage is snuggled tightly into the hillside and is approached down a track in magical Cot Valley, which is an area of outstanding natural beauty. Located in the far west of Cornwall between Cape Cornwall and Lands’ End, the valley stretches down to the sea and Porth Nanven Cove which is sandy at low tide. The market town of St Just is nearby with a selection of independent shops, a small co-op, butcher, veg shop, moomaid ice cream and coffee shop and a number of good pubs.  If you need a larger supermarket, the historic coastal harbour of Penzance is 15 minutes away.

You enter the cottage up a path from the parking space, the front door is along the side of the property opening into a small hallway with hooks for coats. To the left is the newly installed kitchen, with plenty of cupboard space, large range cooker with ceramic hob, washing machine, dishwasher, large retro style fridge / freezer and microwave.  The kitchen leads through to the spacious, open plan, triple aspect living and dining area, there are large windows looking out over the valley and French doors leading out to one part of the garden; the result, a bright and airy space with views over the garden. At one end of the room is a large comfortable sofa, coffee table and a smart TV, in the dining area there is a further sofa, armchair, small dining table and two benches. An ideal room for relaxing after a strenuous coastal walk or surfing at nearby Sennen Beach! On the other side of the cottage are two double bedrooms; the master has a comfortable super king bed and ensuite shower room with basin, shower and WC.  The second bedroom has a double bed, cupboard and chest of drawers; both rooms are adorned with crisp white bed linen. There is a separate family bathroom with bath and shower over basin, towel rail and WC. You will find painted wooden floorboards and beautifully decorated rooms throughout the cottage.

There is space to park one car at the front of the property and the ability to park a second car by arrangement if required. To the front of the property is a gravelled area with garden table and chairs and a charcoal BBQ.  There is a further garden area to the side of the property with patio directly outside the living room, the remainder laid to lawn and abundant flowerbeds. There are footpaths directly outside the cottage leading onto the coastal path and down to the sea, Porth Nanven House is next door, where the owners Emily and Alex live,  but the cottage remains private with a secluded garden; perfect for couples or a small family.

Cot valley is absolute heaven for dogs with abundant footpaths, a stream leading down to the cove and footpaths in every direction; so we encourage all dog-owners to bring their beloved pets on holiday with them, they will thank you for it!
