Your Holiday at The Summer House

Imagine heading down the road towards Mousehole, the sea shimmering at the end of the lane; turn off into the large, gravelled driveway shielded with bamboos from the outside world.  The minute you leave your car you feel like you have entered a tropical paradise! Once you have unpacked your bags in the super-stylish and luxurious Summer House, sit out on the deck with a cold glass of rosé whilst the children swim off pent up energy in the sparkling blue pool next door.  Once refreshed, wander down the lane from your holiday cottage to the picturesque village of Mousehole for drinks and dinner at The Old Coastguard Hotel.

Your days can alternate between lazy beach days; Sennen Beach, Porthcurno or Praa Sand, to name just a few, are all within a 30 minute drive; book a surfing lessons or if the water is calmer then paddle board around the mount at Marazion.  On non-beach days then lace up the hiking boots for a stroll along the south west coast path; there are so many routes to choose from; or explore the historic towns; Penzance is only a few miles away, see our journal for good tips on what to do whilst you are visiting.  From Penzance you can jump on the train and visit famous St Ives and the Tate St Ives or Barbara Hepworth museum and sculpture garden.

The Summer House is a unique holiday cottage in Mousehole, offering guests a luxurious home from home experience. The Summer House offers the ideal combination; a secluded oasis of tranquillity but easily accessible for exploring the whole of this incredible part of Cornwall.


From the large gravelled parking area, the concealed front door is down a few steps and leads into a spacious hallway with plenty of storage space and a separate WC. The ground floor is predominantly open plan, with light flooding in from the big glass sliding doors along the back, leading out to the private garden. There is a defined sitting area with three sofas and comfortable chair, with a large wall mounted flat screen TV and coffee table.  There is a dining area with good sized table and seating for six people. Towards the back of the living accommodation is a beautifully designed and well equipped  kitchen with plenty of storage, granite work surface, oven, ceramic hob and Belfast sink.  There is a further island unit, housing a undercounter fridge and freezer, with three stools.

There is a Master Suite, situated on the ground floor. A stunningly spacious bedroom, with king size bed and two day beds for relaxing and reading a book. The bed is a beautifully comfortable and  can be split into twins if necessary (must be agreed in advance). There are double glass patio doors leading out to the decked area and garden. There is a chest of drawers and space to hang clothes, at the back of the room is a luxurious ensuite shower room with double sized steam shower enclosure, WC and basin.  This room is ideal if you are a multi-generational group and require a suite on the ground floor.

The top floor comprises The Family Suite – an open plan room with a clever layout to create two distinct sleeping areas. To the right of the staircase is an area with two single white wooden beds, dressing table, chair and mirror. To the left of the staircase is the spacious main sleeping area with a large super king wooden sleigh bed with hanging space behind, bedside tables, and a large wall mounted flat screen TV. There are two sets of patio doors leading out from the room onto the first-floor balcony, with lovely views of the private garden, shared family garden and swimming pool. Two thirds of the balcony are astro-turfed with coffee table and four chairs, and the far end decked with two comfortable recliners;.  At the far end of the room is a spacious and beautifully presented family bathroom with freestanding bath, WC and basin, the perfect place to relax after a busy day exploring!

The private garden is accessible via the glass patio doors in the living area, and master bedroom.  There is a full length decked area with table and chairs for alfresco dining.  The garden is mostly laid to lawn, with beautifully planted flowerbeds.  At the back of the garden is a small gate taking you to the mini tennis court / football pitch which the owners are happy for you to use; there is also a table tennis table.  At the side of the garden are steps leading up to the shared swimming pool.  At the front of the property is the “Drying Room”, a large utility room with washing machine, tumble drier and plenty of space to store bikes, wet suits, surf boards and other beach stuff.  If you have an electric vehicle, you can run a charging cable from the Drying room but this needs to be agreed with Karen and John during your stay.

Swimming Pool
Between the Summer House and the main family house is a stunning outdoor “infinity” style swimming pool which the owners are happy for guests to use respectfully. The Pool is heated from Easter to End of September.

Karen and John are the incredibly welcoming owners of the Summer House and absolutely encourage the guests to make full use of all the shared facilities.

One dog is welcome at this holiday cottage in Mousehole, but must be agreed in advance and guests should be aware that Karen and John have one gorgeous beagle living with them in the main house.


Fantastic place to stay. Just above Mousehole, a recently refurbished place that fitted the 5 of us (2 adults, 3 kids) with plenty of room to spare.  A highly recommended base for a holiday, John and Karen are the owners who live next door, and they’re wonderful and helpful.  They really make the place even more special. There was even cake, butter, milk and bread waiting for us on arrival! Try out the steam shower! Newbould – May 2024.

There is parking for two cars, guests are asked to park considerately. Good Speed Wifi, 2 x Flat Screen smart TV’s. Bed Linen, Towels and Beach Towels are included. Price includes electricity, central heating, full clean before and after your stay.  Fully equipped kitchen, washing machine and tumble drier.  Max 6 (4 Adults Max plus 2 Children).

The Summer House is a dog friendly holiday cottage near Mousehole but please note the garden is not secure.  Max 1 dog, unless agreed in advance. Non Smoking Property.  There is a shower hose outside the front door for rinsing off sandy feet please!
