Welcome to another edition of my Dog-Friendly Journals, where I share the best spots and seasonal tips for exploring Cornwall with your four-legged friends. If you’ve enjoyed the previous guides, like the Top 5 Dog-Friendly Beaches in Cornwall, you’ll find this journal packed with fresh ideas for autumn adventures. This time, I’m focusing on dog-friendly St Ives in autumn; a season when the town opens its beaches and streets to pups for some relaxed seaside fun.
Autumn in St Ives offers dog owners a wonderful chance to enjoy Cornwall’s coastal beauty. The seasonal dog bans are lifted from October 1st, allowing your furry friends to run free on the main beaches all day until May 14th, 2026. This makes it a special time for dog-friendly trips to St Ives, where Porthmeor, Porthminster, Porthgwidden, and Harbour Beach become playgrounds for dogs and their owners alike.

If you are searching for a year round dog-friendly beach in St Ives, Bamaluz Beach is the spot to head to. Located just along from the Harbour and beneath the St Ives Museum, it’s a favourite for locals and visitors who want to let their dogs off the lead any time of year. This beach adds to the appeal of St Ives as a top dog-friendly destination in Cornwall.

For those who enjoy a bit of retail therapy and café hopping, St Ives warmly welcomes dogs in most shops and plenty of cafés. Breakfast at Scoff Troff Café is especially dog-friendly, with a dedicated doggy menu that makes your canine companion feel right at home. Alternatively, The Loft’s terrace offers lunch with spectacular sea views, perfect for relaxing with your dog by your side.

Art lovers will appreciate that the Leach Pottery in St Ives is fully dog friendly, allowing you to enjoy the creative atmosphere without leaving your pet behind. Though the Tate St Ives and Barbara Hepworth Museum don’t allow dogs, many smaller independent galleries in town welcome dogs, making St Ives a welcoming place to explore art and culture with your dog.
One of my biggest tips, for a stress-free, dog friendly visit to St Ives, is to skip the hassle of town parking. Instead, leave your car at St Erth Station and take the short, ten-minute train journey to St Ives. The train is dog-friendly, and the route offers spectacular coastal views, making the trip part of the adventure. This train journey (timetable HERE) between St Erth and St Ives is a real highlight and a stress-free alternative to driving.
